KUCHING, Aug 15: OceanMight Sdn Bhd, the oil and gas subsidiary of KKB Engineering Berhad, has celebrated a significant milestone with the successful sail-away of three topsides and three substructures for the MLNG FaS project, which encompasses the F22, F27, and Selasih gas fields offshore Sarawak.
The MLNG FaS project, part of the MLNG Production Sharing Contract (PSC), is operated by Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB), which holds a 40 per cent equity stake. PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) also holds 40 per cent, while Petroleum Sarawak Exploration & Production Sdn Bhd (PSEP) owns the remaining 20 per cent.
In a media release today, it was highlighted that this marks the first Sarawak Shell project awarded to OceanMight, following the contract signed on Dec 20, 2022. The project began with the first steel cut on April 12, 2023, under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for standard wellhead platforms for the MLNG FaS gas fields.
The three wellhead platforms, combined more than 5,700 metric tonnes, were fabricated at OceanMight Fabrication Yard at Jalan Bako in Kuching.
KKB Engineering Group managing director and OceanMight director Kho Pok Tong expressed immense pride in the achievement.
He acknowledged the dedicated team of around 1,600 personnel, 90 per cent of whom are skilled Sarawakians, for their role in reaching this milestone.
“This celebration underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a workplace culture that prioritises the well-being of our employees, safeguards the environment and promotes sustainable practices in our operations.
“The success of the MLNG FaS project is a testament to the capabilities and work ethic of our Sarawakian workforce, who have made our region proud,” he emphasised.
Licensed by PETRONAS in 2013, OceanMight has competitively tendered for both local and international projects over the past decade, securing a total of 17 contracts. Of these, 15 have been completed safely and successfully handed over to clients, with two projects currently in progress.
Across all completed and ongoing projects, OceanMight has achieved over 9.7 million man-hours with zero lost-time injuries, a significant safety record in the industry.
To commemorate the sail-away of the completed structures for the MLNG FaS project, OceanMight hosted a ceremony on July 29 at its Fabrication Yard in Bako. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Shell Malaysia Country Chair Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman, senior management from Sarawak Shell, PCSB, PSEP, and KKB founder and executive chairman Dato Sri Kho Kak Beng. — DayakDaily
