Normalising cross-border trade between Sarawak, Kalimantan among issues raised during Awang Tengah’s meeting in Jakarta

KUCHING, March 27: Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan attended a meeting between the Malaysian delegation and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in Jakarta on Saturday.

According to a statement, among the issues raised by Awang Tengah were the difficulty of crossing the border between Sarawak and Kalimantan, normalising cross-border trade, and the importance of upgrading roads to improve population mobility between the two regions.

He also encouraged more collaboration between Kalimantan and Sarawak businesses and environmental conservation issues.


The meeting was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Special Envoy Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Awang Tengah and the delegation also attended a meeting with Dhony Rahajoe, deputy head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority. — DayakDaily
