SIBU, Nov 7: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate for P211 Lanang, Priscilla Lau believes that people in the constituency have grown so frustrated with the incumbent that they are putting up posters calling the latter a liar.

“During the two years of the pandemic you can see the suffering of the people and that is reflected in the posters that they put up saying ‘liar’ in a Chinese character.

“For someone to do that there must be a lot of anger as it is also not cheap to print posters and to put them up,” said Priscilla at a joint press conference with Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB) today.

Priscilla who is one of four candidates vying for the Lanang seat opined that those responsible behind these posters wanted to vent their frustration at the incumbent, adding that this sentiment can be heard on the ground.

Priscilla claimed the incumber had also not visited the people in villages until they do not even know how she looks like.

“One woman in Kampung Sentosa asked me whether am Alice Lau as she has not seen her. I said I am not,” she said

Priscilla said her party was not behind the defaced posters as “we will not go down to that level. We will win as we talk on what we are going to do (for the constituency.”

An infuriated Alice had on Nov 6 at a press conference had said it was ‘very low-class” to put up posters of her with a Chinese character depicting her as a liar. Some were in Bahasa Malaysia with the word “Tipu.”

She said she had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.

The seat is set to see a four-cornered fight. The other two candidates vying for the seat are Wong Ching Yong (Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Sarawak United Peoples’Party) and an independent Datuk Wong Tiong Kiong. — DayakDaily
