KUCHING, Aug 30: The State government will provide psychosocial and welfare support to the family of a child who died in Sibu with relevant agencies directed to closely monitor the situation.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said she had instructed the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS) and other relevant agencies under her ministry to ensure the affected family receives appropriate assistance.
The support includes psychosocial and welfare assistance as the family copes with the loss.
Expressing her sadness and shock over the child’s death, Fatimah conveyed her condolences to the family and loved ones.
“No child should ever have to experience violence of any kind, and the loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy for any family,” she said in a statement today.
Fatimah said she understood that police investigations were ongoing, with a suspect remanded to assist with the probe.
She urged the public to allow the authorities to carry out their work thoroughly and without interference, stressing that it was inappropriate to speculate on the circumstances, motive or responsibility for the incident while investigations were still underway.
She called on members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, photographs or speculation that could further distress the family or interfere with the investigation.
“For now, our thoughts are with the child’s family and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss,” she said. — DayakDaily
