KUCHING, Oct 21: Sarawak State Secretary Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki is urging Sarawak’s civil servants not to indulge in finger-pointing or blame games, but work as a team that complements one another.

He said every member of the public service must contribute their part and uphold the spirit of teamwork for the team to be successful.

“I always imagine our team of civil servants as a football team. Look at how the professional football teams, like in the English Premier League play.

“Very seldom we see that when the opponent team scores one goal, the striker starts getting angry at the fullback or the goalkeeper.

“Even if there is a mistake when passing the ball, they still clap their hands and just keep going,” he said, adding that a healthy working culture would create a conducive environment for all employees.

This would then ensure a satisfactory level of wellbeing among public service officers in Sarawak government departments.

Abu Bakar was delivering his speech during the National Counselling Month 2022 launching for Sarawak civil servants and World Mental Health Day celebration ceremony held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Additionally, he also said the perception that counselling is only for those with issues must be corrected.

“Counselling should be seen as a platform to improve an individual from the aspects of self-development and talent.

“In fact, counselling services should also be seen as a solution and value-added to improve the well-being of an organisation,” he said.
