SARIKEI, Aug 7: A total of 164 civil servants from 17 Sarawak State and federal government agencies and departments were awarded the Loyal Service Medal in recognition of their unwavering commitment, dedication and contributions to strengthening the government’s service delivery system.
The awards were presented by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a presentation ceremony held at Sarawak Government Administrative Centre today.
In his address, Abang Johari said the award not only recognises individual achievements but also underscores the vital role played by each recipient in advancing Sarawak’s development agenda and long-term aspirations.
“The conferment of this medal is not merely a recognition of personal accomplishment, but also a reflection of the important role each recipient plays in helping to realise Sarawak’s aspirations and development goals,” he said as reported by TVS news.
He emphasised that civil servants remain the backbone of the government’s service delivery system, noting that the successful implementation of policies, programmes and initiatives depends largely on their efficiency, professionalism and integrity.
Abang Johari noted that as Sarawak continues its post-pandemic development journey, the state is progressing with the implementation of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which prioritises digital transformation, sustainable economic growth and social well-being.
In light of this, he urged civil servants to remain adaptable, resilient and proactive in enhancing their knowledge and skills to meet evolving challenges and demands.
“Civil servants must be prepared to embrace change, strengthen their resilience and continuously equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills to remain effective agents of transformation in an increasingly complex environment,” he said.
He expressed hope that the recognition would inspire recipients to continue delivering exemplary service and serve as role models for their colleagues across the public sector.
The Premier also conveyed his best wishes for the recipients’ continued good health and success in their respective roles, expressing confidence that their contributions would further strengthen the public service and support Sarawak’s ongoing development.
The Loyal Service Medal is awarded to permanent civil servants in Sarawak who have completed either 20 years of continuous service or 25 years of cumulative service, while maintaining an exemplary record free from disciplinary action. — DayakDaily
