Nine lanterns illuminate Plaza Merdeka, symbolising harmony, diversity at Mid-Autumn Festival

KUCHING, Oct 3: The nine lanterns showcased at the Garden Box in Plaza Merdeka here during the Mid-Autumn Festival represent a harmonious and diverse society, as depicted by their theme and design.

According to Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Association chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok in a statement today, the association has collaborated with Plaza Merdeka for the Mid-Autumn Festival event to promote traditional, cultural, and artistic activities.

Additionally, the Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN) is also involved in the collaboration.

“The event was held from Sept 22 to Oct 1 and featured an exhibition of gifted artwork, performances, and various competitions, including lantern making, mooncake making, singing, colouring, and cheongsam competition,” he said.

Sim shared the results of the Lantern Making Competition. The first prize was won by Liew Thai Chong, the second prize by Wilson Nyam, and the third prize by Ling Chun Yu. Additionally, there were two consolation prizes awarded, one to Nyam Kee Guan and the other to Ho Wee Ching.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival was held successfully over 10 days at Plaza Merdeka and was closed with result announcements of the Lantern Making Competition.

“The organising association would like to thank all the sponsors, participants, volunteers, generous members of the public, and the parents for their support towards the special children and young adults.

“Additionally, the organising association would like to extend their congratulations to all the winners of the various competitions.”

Sim also commented that the festival successfully organised a variety of activities and competitions to promote social interaction and foster unity in diversity. — DayakDaily
