Newborn found dead in Bandar Baru Semariang drain

KUCHING, Jan 19: A newborn baby girl was found dead in a drain at Bandar Baru Semariang by the police following an interrogation session with the mother today.

Kuching police district chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani revealed they received a police report about concealing birth from a Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) medical officer at 11.02am.


The report was filed by the medical officer after examined a 20-year-old patient, whom they believed had just given birth based on the signs, effects and symptoms of heavy bleeding.

“Initially, the patient refused to reveal any information to medical officers. After our interrogation, she finally led the police to the scene where the baby was found in the drain, not far from her house,” Awang Din disclosed.

The baby’s body was then taken to SGH for post mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
