New Year cheer: Kuching Waterfront, the place to be tomorrow

2018 Kuching New Year Countdown will take place at Kuching Waterfront tomorrow night.

KUCHING, Dec 30: Kuching Waterfront will be the happening place in the city tomorrow. Besides the New Year countdown, the state will be launching the Visit Sarawak Campaign there, too.

Among the top Malaysian artistes confirmed to entertain with their popular songs are Noryn Aziz, REM and Shafiq Farhain.

Local well-known singers making their appearances are Roxanne Lee, Felicia Gek, Gabriel Fairuz Louis, Mohd. Firdaus Materang, Siti Hajar Mohidin and Nur Fauzana Wahid.


At 5pm, the celebration will start with entertainment by popular local bands, buskers and others until past midnight.

The entertainers are At Adau, Belio Buskers, Legacy Band, On String Band plus performers from Universiti Technology Mara Malaysia (UiTM) Sarawak and Lim Kok Wing Creative University.

The highlights of the celebration will be musical water fountain display and more stage performances of Malay dance, Iban ngajat, Melanau, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Chinese and Indian dances.

Other captivating attractions to be shown are water show, lighting up of the Darul Hana Bridge, 3D imaging and a video show by the Sarawak Tourism Board in conjunction with the launching of the Visit Sarawak Campaign by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The grand finale will be the grand fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.

There will be four large LED screens strategically erected around the event area so that the public can have a good view of all the happenings. Food and drinks will be readily available on sale as early as 4pm, provided by food trucks.

Members of the public are advised to come early tomorrow to join in the fun. Certain roads leading to the Kuching waterfront will be closed early to facilitate the celebration, and traffic police will be around to assist road users. — DayakDaily
