KUCHING, Aug 14: A girl reportedly fell from the Darul Hana Bridge at the Kuching Waterfront this evening but was safely rescued by a boatman, according to videos circulating on social media.
The footage showed the girl standing near the edge of the pedestrian bridge while a crowd gathered nearby.
At one point, several individuals appeared to approach her, prompting screams from onlookers before she was no longer visible from the bridge.
In subsequent videos, the girl was seen in the Sarawak River as members of the public watched from the waterfront.
A boatman was later seen manoeuvring his vessel towards her before bringing her to safety. Several individuals were also seen entering the river as rescue efforts unfolded.
The girl is understood to be safe following the rescue. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident and what led to her fall have not been officially confirmed.
Police have been contacted for comment but, as of press time, have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. — DayakDaily
