KUCHING, July 20: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has appealed to the public to be patient with the newly opened Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic which began operating today as there may be minor adjustments as services are fine-tuned.

He said the clinic would need some time to settle into its routines and expressed confidence that the clinic’s staff would adapt quickly and that the facility would soon be operating at its full capacity to provide efficient and quality healthcare services to the community.

Wee, who visited the clinic today, met with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel, thanking them for their dedication and commitment in ensuring the clinic commenced operations smoothly. He also interacted with patients to wish them good health.

He was pleased to see that the clinic was well organised, with patient registration, consultation, and pharmacy services operating efficiently on its opening day.

Wee congratulated the team at the Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic for their teamwork and professionalism in ensuring a successful first day of operations and wished all healthcare personnel continued success in serving the people with care, compassion, and dedication.

It was reported that the Type 2 clinic, which costs RM24 million, is expected to cater up to 1,000 patients not just from the Tabuan Jaya area but also from the Samarahan—up to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas)—and Stutong areas.

The project was part of the Health Ministry’s (MOH) 10th Malaysia Plan (2010-2015) under Rolling Plan (RP) 1, in which the project was awarded to a contractor in December 2021 after three tenders.

It was supposed to be completed in June 2024, but an extension of time (EOT) was required for additional requirements by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The facility is the second Type 2 health clinic in Sarawak after the one in Petra Jaya, but the Tabuan Jaya clinic differs from it as it was designed and built based on the ministry’s pre-approved standard plan.

The clinic is located at Lot 19351, Block 11 at the Muara Tebas Land District. Among the services and facilities it will provide are outpatient and emergency, maternal and child health, dental, a pharmacy, radiology, a laboratory, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and other supportive services such as psychology, nutrition, and dietetics. — DayakDaily
