KUCHING, July 20: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Works and the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to establish MyBIM Malaysia, which will operate at the Sarawak JKR BIM Laboratory.
In a statement, the department said the MoU signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the Malaysia Public Works Strategic Collaboration Programme 2026 in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday (July 19).
“This strategic collaboration is an important step in expanding the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and strengthening the implementation of digitalisation in the country’s construction sector,” said Sarawak JKR.
The establishment of MyBIM Malaysia at the Sarawak JKR BIM Laboratory is expected to become a centre for reference, training, competency development, research, and BIM innovation in Sarawak.
This initiative also supports efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of the construction industry in line with the government’s aspirations towards more efficient, higher-quality, and sustainable infrastructure development.
Through this collaboration, Sarawak JKR will continue to strengthen its employees’ technical capabilities and expand the use of BIM in planning, design, construction, asset management, and infrastructure maintenance.
Meanwhile, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that infrastructure is not just about the roads, bridges or buildings that were constructed, as its goal lies in making people’s lives easier, creating economic opportunities, and empowering the future of our communities.
In a Facebook post, the Kapit MP spoke on the Malaysia Public Works Strategic Collaboration Programme, which brings together the Works Ministry, JKR branches nationwide, and the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB).
“It is a platform that embodies the spirit of collaboration between the federal and state governments, technical departments, the construction industry, and all strategic partners, working towards a common goal.
“To me, the measure of a project’s success is not simply the number of kilometres of roads built or the number of projects completed, but the extent to which it benefits the people,” he said.
He also noted that in this era of digital transformation, it is vital to keep pace with changing times by embracing technology, digitalising assets, leveraging data, and driving innovation in the construction industry.
Nanta said that initiatives such as BIM, the National Construction Information Platform (NCIP) and MYJalan are part of efforts to ensure decisions are made more accurately, maintenance is carried out more proactively, and government service delivery to the people continues to improve.
“Let us continue to work faster, think further ahead and act more boldly to build infrastructure that is not only strong and of high quality, but also truly transforms the lives of the people.
“Because public works is not just about what we build—it is about the legacy of benefits we leave for future generations,” he said. — DayakDaily
