KUCHING, April 19: The State Health Department has identified a new cluster of Covid-19 in Matu involving longhouses, a primary school and a clinic in Sungai Passin that gave rise to the Sungai Passin Cluster.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the index case of the cluster is a 55-year-old woman identified through symptomatic screening at Sibu Hospital.

SDMC said the victim was tested positive for Covid-19 on April 2.

Thereafter, active case detection and contact tracing conducted by the State Health Department has uncovered 48 more Covid-19 cases.

In view of Sungai Passin being classified as a high risk area of Covid-19, SDMC said the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) has been placed at Sungai Passin involving seven longhouses, a primary school and a clinic from April 12 until April 25.

The committee added ACD was also being carried out at nearby longhouses.

At present, a total of 441 individuals linked to the cluster have been swabbed for Covid-19.

Out of the 441 individuals, 49 tested positive for Covid-19 excluding the index case and 389 were tested negative while three individuals were awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

SDMC said all the positive cases of the Sungai Passin Cluster have been admitted to Sibu Hospital and Sibu low risk quarantine centre for treatment.

In the meantime, SDMC said there were four new clusters of Covid-19 identified today.
