KUCHING, May 23: The Sarawak Melanau Community Welfare Trust (LAKKMS) will be constructing a new nine-storey multi-purpose complex named ‘Lebuk Melanau’ worth RM55 million, which is expected to be located near Swinburne University and Borneo Medical Centre.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the high-impact project will be built on a land area of more than two acres and is slated for completion within three years.

He also expressed hope that the project would be completed ahead of the upcoming Southeast Asian Games, enhancing Kuching’s infrastructure and supporting Sarawak’s ambitions in developing medical and educational tourism.

The project has already received the support of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The upcoming complex will feature a multi-purpose hall, serviced apartments, a canteen, and a range of other amenities designed to meet the needs of the local community and visitors.

“We see great potential in this area because of its strategic location, near Swinburne University and Borneo Medical Centre,” Len Talif said after leading the LAKMKS delegation on a courtesy call to the Sarawak Premier at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.

“It is very suitable as a temporary accommodation option for foreign lecturers, medical experts, or anyone who comes to serve in Sarawak for a short or long term,” he added.

Also present during the visit were LAKKMS chairman Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood and deputy chairman Samat Junai. – DayakDaily
