MIRI, April 10: The new health clinic building, next to the existing Miri Hospital and being constructed at a cost of RM26,306,003.49, is scheduled for completion in April next year.

Yesterday (April 9), Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also Senadin assemblyman, visited the site to inspect the ongoing construction of the new health clinic.

“This new health clinic is to replace the existing old health clinic (previously known as Miri Polyclinic) which is too small and unable to cater to the needs of Miri City’s population,” opined Lee.

He added, outpatients have to queue up early in the morning to get their numbers for their turn to get medical treatment or to collect their medication.

“It has been long overdue for a new and bigger health clinic to be built with sufficient facilities to cater for the present and future needs of Miri City’s population,” he said.

Lee has in the past voiced the need for a new health clinic to replace the existing one to cater for the increasing number of the people needing health services, especially the low-income group.

The proposal was approved in 2016 and earth works began in 2017/2018.

During the visit, Lee was accompanied by acting Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, Miri Divisional health officer Dr P. Raviwharmman A/L Packierisamy, manager of JKR Northern Regional Office Ir Teo Nguong Leong Regional and his JKR team.

They were briefed at the site by a contractor on the progress of the project.

As of March 25, this year, the project is 40.59 per cent completed.

Lee hoped that the contractor would try his best to catch up with his construction work and complete the project as scheduled. — DayakDaily
