KUCHING, June 12: A new dual-carriageway from Kuching to Bau costing over RM200 million will be built to improve connectivity between the two areas, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari pointed out Bau has many tourist attractions, including limestone formations, gold, culture and geological formations like Wind Cave.
“The latest is the connection to Kuching; one is the Pan Borneo Highway, and the other is the old road from Kuching to Bau, which passes through Siniawan, and this road is the artery to Bau from Kuching besides the Pan Borneo Highway.
“When we look at Bau, there must be good access to Bau, so we are improving the road to dual-carriageway just like the Pan Borneo Highway.
“It’ll be from Kuching to Bau. Then, Bau will be connected to Lundu and Sematan,” he said today at the Bau Gawai Open House 2022 event, which is being held at Bau Civic Centre.
Abang Johari also said that Bau has great tourism potential, and during his tenure as Tourism Minister, he had stated that what Sarawak needs is integrated tourism development between Bau, Lundu, and Sematan.
“In Bau, we have Siniawan, which is similar to a western city in the United States.
“Siniawan’s music and Chinese attractions demonstrate the close relationship between the Chinese and the Bidayuh community.
“Like the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) in West Malaysia, we have long had a Keluarga Malaysia in Sarawak, including the Malay community and other races,” he added. — DayakDaily
