KUCHING, July 4: The Sarawak government plans to build another dual carriageway complete with a new bridge to improve connectivity between Gedong, Simunjan, Sebuyau, and the coastal areas, while boosting socio-economic development in the region.
According to Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development), Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, the project involves the construction of a new dual carriageway from Gedong to Simunjan, which will cross the Sageng River via a new bridge before linking to the Simunjan Administrative Centre.
He said the project is expected to shorten travel time and provide a more efficient road network, particularly for residents in the coastal areas.
“We are currently planning to build another new dual carriageway from Gedong to Simunjan. The route will cross the Sageng River through the construction of a new twin bridge located not far from the existing Sageng Bridge.
“The new road will connect Gedong directly to the Simunjan Administrative Centre. This means connectivity between the districts of Gedong and Simunjan, as well as other districts, will become faster and smoother,” he said at the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Southern Zone Mahabbah Outreach Programme at Dewan Mesra Simunjan today, as reported by TVS.
Aidel explained that the infrastructure development will greatly benefit residents of Gedong, Simunjan, Sebuyau, and surrounding areas as the coastal road network continues to be enhanced in line with the Sarawak government’s development agenda.
He also noted that the project will not only strengthen the transportation system but also create more economic opportunities, facilitate residents’ daily activities, and accelerate the movement of goods and services between districts. — DayakDaily
