KUCHING, March 19: The recent line-up of community leaders appointed in Nanga constituency is based on Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) leadership consensus, says Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Nangka chairman Teo Nging Poh.

He was responding to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Nangka chairman Chua Beng Seh who expressed his personal dissatisfaction with regards to the new line-up on social media recently.

“While he (Chua) is pointing fingers at PDP to blame for his personal feelings, I remind him that the appointments have been made based on GPS leadership consensus. His comments only serve to create anger and blame between GPS component partners.

“Perhaps he feels his perceived authority based on his titles in the area is being threatened. But this manner of airing his grievances will not retain the people’s support.

“On the contrary, many Sibu people have openly expressed their gratitude to PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing for bringing positive changes to Sibu. Maybe Chua should take notes, instead of continuing to be complacent within his authority,” Teo said in a statement today.

Teo said that within the new line-up, there are two penghulu and six kapitan nominated by SUPP, while there are two penghulu and three kapitan nominated by PDP.

He further thanked Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee for the latter’s open-mindedness and inclusive approach to managing the appointments.

“If the SUPP chairman of Nangka has any issues with the list, he should raise the matter privately within his party. Do not drag PDP into your internal squabbles in SUPP, we have no interest in taking part in your party affairs.

“Everyone understands that each GPS component party had been allocated a proportionate number of community appointees, in line with the GPS consensus reached in the name of collaborative unity and mutual support. Therefore, I urge everyone to be temperate and avoid speaking out of turn on this matter further.

“Bickering unnecessarily over this makes a mockery of the original intention of serving the people,” he added. — DayakDaily
