KUCHING, Jan 15: A total of 3,211 new cases of positive Covid-19 were recorded in the country today, with eight deaths reported.

According to Ministry of Health (MOH) director-general Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today, out of the total number of new cases reported today, five are imported cases while the rest (3,206 cases) are local transmission.

“This brings the cumulative numbers of positive Covid-19 cases in the country to 151,066 cases, with 35,253 active cases,” he said.

Dr. Noor Hisham noted Selangor remains with the highest number of new cases recorded with a total of 899 cases, followed by Johor (535), Sabah (514), Kuala Lumpur (401), Pulau Pinang (194), Kedah (142), Terengganu (92), Kelantan (79), Perak (74), Negeri Sembilan (70), Pahang (70), Sarawak (60), Melaka (58), Putrajaya (24), Labuan (9), while Perlis reported zero new case.

“At the moment, a total of 204 cases were being treated in the hospital intensive care unit (ICU), with 89 of them under respiratory assistance,” he added.

On the same note, Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 1,939 cases of positive Covid-19 has also recovered and discharged from the hospital as of today, bringing the total cumulative number of recovered and discharged cases in the country to 115, 227 cases (76.3 per cent).

“However, eight death cases due to Covid-19 were also reported today, which brings the total cumulative death cases in the country due to Covid-19 to 586 cases (0.39 per cent),” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham also disclosed a total of 12 new clusters were identified in eight states, involving 508 individuals tested positive for Covid-19.

“The new clusters are namely Jalan Telok Gong (108) and Lingkaran Lintang (25) clusters in Selangor, Persiaran Selatan (61), Jalan Kluang (18) and Kampung Perani (18) clusters in Johor, Ladang Baturong (54) and Ladang Matamba (20) clusters in Sabah, Tapak Bina Damai cluster (130) in Kuala Lumpur, Pondok Hidayah cluster (15) in Kelantan, Kota Road cluster (18) in Perak, Tembok Kemus cluster (22) in Melaka, and Restoran Putra cluster (19) in Putrajaya,” he said. –DayakDaily.
