SIBU, Dec 11: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will need to discuss the request by Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Ali Biju to contest under the Bersatu ticket for the Saratok seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) before making a decision.
After officiating at the Segar @ Mesra programme at Petronas Jalan Lanang today, GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said what Ali had asked for needed to go through the leaders of the two parties first.
“What Ali asked for lies in the decision of the top leadership of GPS and Bersatu. It is up to both parties to discuss the matter,” he said.
Nanta, who is also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, thanked Ali for pulling out from contesting in the Krian seat.
“By not contesting, it shows the loyal spirit of friendship between Bersatu and GPS,” he added.
Last night, Ali hoped that GPS would give the Saratok parliamentary seat to Bersatu following his decision not to contest in Krian for the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).
He said his decision to pull out was for the common good and ensured that good relations prevailed between the two parties.
“I hope GPS can consider allowing me to continue to defend the Saratok parliamentary seat,” he said. ― DayakDaily
