KUCHING, July 11: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is conducting a study to explore developing Kampung Timurang as an ecotourism destination in Padawan district.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), MPP deputy secretary Henry Jalin Watt said the area is famous for its beautiful flora and fauna.

“Kampung Timurang is famous for its Rafflesia flowers, beautiful caves and rivers as well as the existence of natural tunnels which connect the agricultural areas of the surrounding residents,” he said after participating in a visit by an MPP delegation to the Tourism Information and Rafflesia Flower Site Centre in the village last Saturday (July 9).

He said MPP in collaboration with the federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC) had previously built several facilities such as a walking path to the Rafflesia flower site and Semadang Cave.

“However, it is now less visited by the public since the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

In the meantime, he hoped that MPP’s efforts would be able to increase the potential of ecotourism in the area. — DayakDaily
