MPP chairman: Flash floods at Pan Borneo Highway Mile 6 1/2 caused by intense rainfall

MPP chairman Tan Kai

KUCHING, Nov 17: The flash flood at Mile 6 1/2 along the Pan Borneo Highway on Nov 14 was a result of heavy rainfall, specifically “very heavy rainfall intensity,” according to a statement by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai.

Tan Kai referred to records from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak, which indicated that the rainfall in the area was recorded at 105mm in one hour.

He emphasised that rainfall exceeding 60mm is considered very heavy.

“I have informed and provided videos recorded by the local residents on the flash flood to the Public Works Department (JKR),” stated Tan Kai.

He assured the public that he would continue to follow up with JKR and other relevant departments to address and mitigate the flash flood issues in the affected area. — DayakDaily
