KUCHING, Oct 27: Contractors handling the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah could face contract termination if they fail to address implementation issues, as the government pushes for the project’s completion by 2030.
Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi acknowledged public concerns over delays and said monitoring had been intensified to address implementation issues.
“I understand the public’s concerns over delays to this project. That is why monitoring has been intensified, implementation issues are being addressed directly, and firm action, including contract termination, may be taken against problematic contractors,” he said.
Nanta said this in a statement shared on his social media following his winding-up speech on the 2027 Budget for the Ministry of Works (KKR) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said Phase 1A had reached 89.54 per cent progress, while Phase 1B stood at 25.53 per cent, with the project targeted for completion by 2030.
The project, he said, was crucial to improving mobility for the people of Sabah and supporting the state’s economic growth.
He also highlighted KKR’s efforts to expand the use of technology and innovation to improve efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen road safety.
Nanta said KKR’s RM9.736 billion development allocation for 2027 would focus on delivering quality, safe infrastructure for the people.
He stressed that the focus must be on completing projects and delivering benefits to the public, rather than merely making announcements.
He added that KKR’s work culture must remain grounded in urgency, responsibility, accountability and follow-through until every task was completed. — DayakDaily
