Premier Abang Johari emphasises border security, receives Maybank zakat contribution

KUCHING, Nov 17: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has underscored the importance of maintaining security along Sarawak’s borders, particularly addressing issues such as illegal immigrant invasions, smuggling, and cross-border crimes, according to Third Malaysian Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Adnan Hashim.

Following a courtesy call to Abang Johari at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Adnan shared with reporters that border security was a focal point during the meeting. Abang Johari informed them about the involvement of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in safeguarding the Sarawak-Indonesia border.

“The meeting discussed matters related to maintaining the security in Sarawak-Indonesia’s border, addressing issues like invasions from illegal immigrants (PATI), smuggling of goods, and cross-border crimes,” stated Adnan.


He also mentioned that Abang Johari discussed additional assets to aid the army in their duties along Sarawak’s borders.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also received a second courtesy visit at his office from Maybank Group led by its President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli.

Kahirusalleh said the visit was to hand over zakat amounting to more than RM1.02 million from Maybank Islamic to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

He also said that other purpose of the visit is to understand the direction of the Sarawak government in terms of strategy and how Maybank can assist. — DayakDaily
