KUCHING, March 22: All bin centres in MJC Batu Kawah shophouses are to be demolished to curb illegal dumping.
In a statement today, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai said demolition works have started and are expected to be completed by the end of March.
Henceforth, the door-to-door rubbish collection service will be implemented and is set to commence in April.
“While the demolition works of the bin centre are progressing and pending the delivery of the garbage bins to the individual blocks, MPP will temporarily place the smaller bins at identified strategic spots in the parking lots for the general waste disposal of the residents and business operators at MJC shophouses,” he said.
He reminded the general public that the bins provided by MPP are strictly for the use of MJC Batu Kawah shophouses’ residents and business operators only.
He emphasised that it should not be used for indiscriminate waste disposal, especially bulky waste by outsiders.
“MPP, along with the management corporations and residents of MJC Batu Kawah shophouses, will monitor the situation of waste disposal, and individuals caught red-handed for illegally dumping waste in any public place within MJC’s vicinity will be penalised under By-law 18(3) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-laws, 1999,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tan Kai called on all business owners who generate excess waste to apply for an additional collection request (ACR) by submitting an application to the Public Health & Municipal Services Division of MPP.
He said that the additional waste from these business premises could be better managed through the ACR.
He also hoped to put an end to the illegal dumping issues at the MJC Batu Kawah shophouse area and, after that, provide a cleaner and more sustainable environment for its residents. — DayakDaily
