KUCHING, April 9: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) joins other councils in scrapping its Ramadhan bazaar this year in light of the current Covid-19 situation in the state.

According to MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos in a press statement today, this decision was made after taking into consideration advice from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) divisional chairman, including withdrawing the two (bazaars) that were approved to be held earlier.

“We all love ‘Pasar Ramadhan’ but the Covid-19 situation does not allow it. The health and safety of our people takes top priority,” he said.

Minos noted there was no way the council could effectively monitor and enforce the anti-Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) if the Ramadhan bazaar is allowed to operate, due to its popularity and tendency to attract large crowds.

Apart from that, he said, MPKS also took note of what the other councils had decided and followed suit.

“So let each and everyone of us fully support the government in fighting the invisible but deadly virus in whatever way we can. Until and unless Covid-19 is gone, the fight against it continues,” he added. — DayakDaily
