Motorist suspected of provoking road users in Petra Jaya turns himself in

KUCHING, March 18: A motorcyclist who is suspected of provocating other road users in front of the Mydin supermarket in Petra Jaya last Thursday (March 14) has turned himself in to the police two days later.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the 18-year-old had surrendered himself at Kuching District Police headquarters around 9.30pm on Saturday (March 16).

“The suspect is being detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Also confiscated was a Honda EX5 (C100) motorcycle belonging to the suspect.

“The suspect will be remanded for two days starting March 18 to 19,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect has no previous criminal record and his urine test results were found to be negative.

The incident, captured in a 1 minute 50 second video that went viral on social media on March 15, shows two individuals riding a motorcycle without a registration number engaging in provocative behaviour towards other road users.

The incident occurred on March 14 at approximately 5.20pm along Jalan Demak, in front of the Mydin supermarket in Petra Jaya.

Following this, the police were actively pursuing leads to track down the motorcyclist and ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law. — DayakDaily
