JULAU, July 30: A motorcyclist died while his motorcycle burst into flames in an accident at Mile 14 Jalan Kelupu-Julau-Durin today.
Julau District police chief DSP Andam Sulin said the accident happened at about 12.30pm when the driver of the van could not avoid colliding with a motorcycle which had allegedly suddenly made a U-turn.
The van was heading towards Bintangor when it collided with the motorcycle, causing the two-wheeler to catch fire.
“Both were travelling in the same direction towards Bintangor when the deceased allegedly suddenly made a U-turn. The driver of the van claimed that he was unable to avoid the motorcycle as the distance between them was very close,” he said.
The 27-year old self-employed motorcyclist from Rumah Tedung, Sungai Tuah in Kanowit died on the spot.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
