KUCHING, July 30: The Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) will now operate according to appointments made online.

In a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said such an initiative was put in place to reduce congestion while preventing people from queuing and waiting too long at the centre.

“For Puspakom Kuching Branch, the public only has to wait one day for a vehicle inspection after making an appointment online and only B5 (change of ownership) has to wait for two days.

“Meanwhile, for the other five branches, there are no problem and there will be no need to wait.

“If you make an appointment online today, you will also be able to make an inspection on the same day,” he said during an official working visit with the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Buckland Bangik at Puspakom Kuching today.

Kim Shin stressed that the public who want their vehicle inspected should come according to the appointment time set to avoid any problems or delays.

In the meantime, he said Puspakom Kuching has extended its operating hours from 8am to 6.30pm every Monday to Saturday, due to the surplus number of vehicles to be inspected.

Other branches still maintain their normal operating hours and days, namely 8am to 5pm every Monday to Friday for Miri, Sarikei and Sri Aman; 8am to 6pm for Sibu and 8am to 5.30pm for Bintulu.

Kim Shin added that the Puspakom Kuching office will also be relocated to a new area in Kota Samarahan next year.

“The area is wider and I hope when Puspakom Kuching moves to a new site, more vehicles can be inspected and facilities can be added and capacity problems will not arise again,” he said.

Any inquiries and complaints can contact each Puspakom Sarawak branch at 082-345910 (Kuching), 012-4927008 (Sri Aman), 084- 652078 (Sarikei), 084 -211884 (Sibu), 011-65730211 (Bintulu) and 085- 615393 (Miri). — DayakDaily
