Motorcyclist dies after crashing into tree in Kuching

KUCHING, Nov 5: A local man in his 30s perished in an accident that occurred along Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha today.

According to Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah in a statement, the victim, who was riding a motorcycle, was coming from Jalan Pending to Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong at around 12.30am when the accident occurred.

“The victim lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree on the right side of the road.

“He was brought to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by an ambulance but passed away at 1.35am,” he said.

He added that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which is the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving which carries a prison sentence of five to ten years with a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000.
