KUCHING, March 5: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a mother to one week in jail and a RM1,000 fine or in default two weeks’ imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to commit theft.
Mahani Mahmud, 24, was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries the penalty of a jail term not exceeding twenty years and fine.
She was charged with committing theft at a hypermarket located at Semariang on March 1, at about 6.15pm. Goods stolen by the accused from the hypermarket included perfume, shampoo, purse, pants, bra, and leggings.
Investigating officer Rogayah Roli prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
Magistrate Chai Guan Hock passed the sentence on the accused. — DayakDaily
