KUCHING, April 11: Malaysia is prepared to organise familiarisation trips for Vietnamese tourism industry players, as well as extend logistical support, so they may experience firsthand the many attractions the country has to offer, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
In a Facebook post, he said there is more to Malaysia besides just Kuala Lumpur and Penang and urged for the promotion of the diverse tourism assets in Melaka, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak.
He said this following a working visit to Vietnam, where discussions were held with key players in the local tourism industry, including Ben Thanh Tourist, one of the country’s largest tourism conglomerates, with a comprehensive portfolio covering both domestic and international travel services and products.
Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, said the Malaysian delegation was received by Ben Thanh Tourist chief executive officer (CEO) Nguyen Ngoc Hoai and regional sales representative Tran Phuong Linh, among others.
He said Nguyen shared that for many Vietnamese travellers, Singapore is often the first choice for outbound tourism, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia.
As such, he said, he emphasised the importance of intensifying promotional and marketing efforts to enhance the appeal of Malaysian tourism offerings, as well as the need to explore opportunities for increased flight connectivity, ultimately paving the way for strategic outreach to new markets.
“During the meeting, I underscored the importance of exploring deeper and more comprehensive collaboration in the tourism sector to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. This includes refreshing and upgrading existing tourism products.
“I further highlighted that Malaysia is currently preparing for a series of major initiatives in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026. As such, it is vital for both sides to strengthen their commitment to long-term cooperation in the fields of tourism and culture,” he said. — DayakDaily
