More than 30,000 cigarettes seized in a raid in Kuala Baram

MIRI, Jan 8: The Customs Department raided a premise in Kuala Baram on Tuesday afternoon, seizing contraband cigarettes worth RM3,344.40.

The seizure involved unpaid tax totaling at RM27,230.85.


A total 37,160 of cigarettes were seized during the raid which was carried out around 12.35pm at Taniku Estate canteen, disclosed Sarawak Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a statement.

The team found the contraband being kept inside a store room inside the premise. They also detained a man to assist in their probe into the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of goods not approved by Customs. —DayakDaily
