KUCHING, May 17: Practising physical distancing more than one metre apart can lower Covid-19 infection rate by 82 per cent.

In revealing this, the Ministry of Health (MOH) also said that each additional metre in the physical distancing can double the protection for a person from getting infected with the virus.

“The risk of Covid-19 infection is much higher when someone coughs, sneezes or talks in a short distance,” it said in a statement today.

The Ministry also disclosed that wearing of face masks can lower the risk of infection by 85 per cent.

Nonetheless, the best protection everyone could have against Covid-19 is by staying at home and not go out unnecessarily.

Despite being reminded over and over again, Sarawakians must not take each standard operating procedures (SOPs) measures lightly especially on the directives to wear face masks in public places, practise social distancing, wash hands with sanitisers and stay at home.

As daily positive cases in Sarawak remain high and not showing signs of dropping, the people’s compliance towards the SOPs is of utmost importance in efforts to break the chain of transmission. — DayakDaily
