KUCHING, May 7: Local bakery chain Mita Cake House has clarified that the Halal certification for its Tun Jugah outlet has been temporarily suspended following an incident involving an employee who brought an unopened can of cider mixed with a lemon-flavoured beverage containing low alcohol content into the premises.

In an official statement issued yesterday (May 6), the management said the incident involved an irresponsible staff member who brought in a carbonated lemon-flavoured soft drink with low ABV (alcohol by volume), meaning it contained a small percentage of alcohol.

The company stressed that all ingredients and operational processes at the outlet remain halal-compliant.

“We would like to assure everyone that all ingredients and operational processes remain halal-compliant, and we are fully committed to maintaining proper standards at all times,” the statement read.

Mita Cake House said it is currently in the process of renewing the Halal certification for the affected outlet.

The company also emphasised that the Halal certifications for its remaining seven outlets remain valid.

At the same time, the management expressed appreciation to customers and the Muslim community for their understanding and continued support during the matter.

“We sincerely thank your understanding, patience, and continued trust in us during this time.

“We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our Muslim friends and community for your continuous support, kindness, and understanding,” it said. — DayakDaily
