KUCHING, April 16: The SK433 Adong Kechil West (AKW) onshore oil and gas (O&G) field is anticipated to commence first production by 2026, following successful drilling and progression into the development phase.
Onshore data acquisition programmes are also set to commence in the second quarter of 2025 with the collection of Enhanced Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometer (eFTG) data, aimed at enhancing the understanding of hydrocarbon prospectivity and mineral potential onshore Sarawak.
According to a press statement, other onshore blocks, including those covering Oya, Mukah, Balingian, Bintulu, Tatau, Miri, Marudi, Lawas and Limbang are also part of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd’s (Petros) comprehensive de-risking and upgrading plan.
Based on the outcomes of this work, further plans for the interior regions of onshore Sarawak will be formulated and refined.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development recently hosted a meeting with Petros to discuss developments involving gas-to-power initiatives, oil and gas production facilities, as well as essential land-related development required for SK433 AKW in Miri.
Petros’ delegation, led by senior vice president of Sarawak Resource Management, Dato Abang Arabi Abang Narudin, stated, “We will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders, partners, and government agencies as we progress. This initiative reflects our commitment to infrastructure and sustainable development in Sarawak.”
The development initiatives presented include the construction of road access, crude oil transfer terminals, a gas power plant in AKW, as well as related infrastructure projects in the pipeline that will benefit surrounding communities.
The meeting was chaired by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who is also Second Minister for Natural Resources & Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment.
It was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Natural Resources & Urban Development, Director of Land and Survey Sarawak and other senior officers. – DayakDaily
