Miri, Sibu, Kuching, Pusa, and Bintulu make up 66 per cent of Sarawak’s 405 new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, May 16: Miri, Sibu, Kuching, Pusa and Bintulu reported 267 or 65.92 per cent of the 405 new Covid-19 cases recorded in 24 districts in Sarawak today.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Miri registered 98 new cases, followed by Sibu (54), Kuching (42), Pusa (37) and Bintulu (36).


The other 19 districts reporting new Covid-19 infections are Kanowit (24), Kapit (21), Song (17), Sri Aman (11), Pakan (9), Serian (8), Sarikei (8), Subis (7), Saratok (6), Selangau (4), Bau (4), Samarahan (4), Betong (3), Beluru (3), Sebauh (3), Lundu (2), Meradong (2), Tebedu (1) and Belaga (1).

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak increases to 38,383.

Of the 405 cases, 277 were detected via individual screenings of close contact with Covid-19 patients, with six of them being symptomatic.

Additionally, 66 cases were detected via individual screenings from existing active clusters with none of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19.

Thirty-six cases were detected via symptomatic screening at health facilities and 25 cases from other types of screenings at health facilities. There was one Import-A case who just returned from Papua New Guinea.

SDMC, in its Covid-19 update today, also reported five new fatalities related to Covid-19, pushing Sarawak’s total death toll up to 224.

With 438 new recoveries in various hospitals reported today, there are 6,382 more Covid-19 patients still receiving treatment in isolation facilities. — DayakDaily
