Miri sees highest daily cases, remains top for 6th consecutive day

KUCHING, May 18: Miri registered the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases among all districts in Sarawak today and is also the district with the most cases reported for the sixth consecutive day.

According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Miri registered 96 new cases of Covid-19 today.


Out of the 96 cases in Miri, there were also seven asymptomatic cases identified from the screening of oil and gas (O&G) workers while on quarantine at the offshore transit centre.

SDMC said the cases for O&G workers was still under investigation and all close contacts have been instructed to undergo screening and quarantine.

Meanwhile, others districts which reported new cases include Bintulu (91), Sibu (69), Kapit (51), Kuching (46), Betong (35), Bukit Mabong (20), Sri Aman (18), Selangau (18), Samarahan (10), Pusa (9), Sarikei (8), Subis (6), Belaga (6), Tanjung Manis (4), Beluru (3), Song (3), Tatau (3), Kanowit (3), Lawas (3), Serian (2), Pakan (2), Daro (1), Meradong (1), Asajaya (1), Saratok (1), Tebedu (1), Mukah (1) and Sebauh (1).

With that, there are 512 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak today, bringing the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the state to 39,328 cases.

On another note, there were five fatalities reported, causing the death toll from the virus to rise to 230.

There were 409 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were discharged from hospitals and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres throughout the state.

There are currently 6,473 Covid-19 patients who are being treated at hospital wards and at quarantine and low-risk treatment centres in Sarawak.

The number of new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases now stands at 518 and five PUI cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
