Miri police arrest ‘Gang Awik’ believed responsible for series of break-ins

MIRI, Jan 17: Miri police believe they have crippled a house-breaking gang with the arrest of five local men early this morning in two separate locations.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah disclosed that the suspects, whose ages range from 17 to 29, were picked up from two separate locations during a raid led by Inspector Fredly Juing.


Four of the suspects were detained at a longhouse in Lambir, while the fifth suspect at Mile 6.5 Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

With the arrest of the group dubbed ‘Gang Awik’, police has solved at least 15 house-breaking cases reported to have occurred around Lambir, Bakam, Taman Tunku and Lusut.

Also seized were two air pump guns, a handphone and a wrist watch.

The first four suspects were detained around 6.55am today, while the fifth one an hour later.

Their last alleged house breaking was on Jan 6 this year. -DayakDaily
