KUCHING, June 25: An elderly housewife in Miri lost RM30,000 after being tricked by three women who are Chinese nationals claiming to be ‘bomoh’ (shamans).
Sarawak police commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the 80-year-old victim was approached by the suspects at the Jalan Raja bus stop, who told her that ‘bad luck’ would befall her family.
“One of the suspects also said that she had met the victim’s late husband and told her to look for the victim to remove the bad luck because it is said that the victim’s son will die in the near future.
“The suspects then offered the victim a ‘treatment’ to remove the bad luck,” he said in a statement.
He said the victim was later instructed to withdraw her money before being brought into a vehicle and was later told to wash her hands and feet using bottled water, which was said to have been ‘enchanted’ to remove bad luck.
He also said the suspects then returned the victim’s belongings, claiming that it included the money, which had been wrapped in newspaper and could only be opened after four days.
“On June 23, the victim called her son and in-law to open the package together. However, when she opened the package, it only contained salt, and she realised she had been tricked.
“The victim then lodged a police report,” he added. — DayakDaily
