MIRI, March 29: Miri City Council (MCC) will start taking stern action against anyone caught occupying parking bays illegally effective April 15.

Met after chairing the full council meeting here today, deputy mayor Julaihi Mohammad reminded business owners or individuals against placing chairs or other items to “reserve” parking spaces that are meant for the public.

“We will impound these items and compound those responsible. No notices will be given,” he warned.

He pointed out that the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) by-laws 1999 and the Road Transport (Provision of Parking Places) (Miri City Council) Order 2006 prohibit people from using parking lots illegally.

The council has to start taking action as this problem was happening all over the city, said Julaihi.

On assessment rate, he reminded property owners to pay their assessment rates on time.

“The due date for the first half of this year would be May 31. This year, we will have another lucky draw programme with lucrative prizes up for grabs,” he said.

Property owners who settle their assessment bills and all outstanding would be eligible to participate in the lucky draws, he explained. — DayakDaily
