KUCHING, Aug 13: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will look into ways to address the parking shortage at Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic, with the council assessing possible solutions to ease the inconvenience faced by patients, visitors and staff.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council would assess the current parking situation and explore what could be done to address the shortage.
He said the clinic currently has 136 car parking spaces and 45 motorcycle bays, but the facilities were insufficient, particularly as some spaces were also used by staff.
“There are 136 parking spaces and 45 motorcycle bays, but once you factor in staff parking, it is totally insufficient,” he told reporters after the handover of a recycled wheelchair and customised curtain to the clinic here today.
Wee said the existing number of parking spaces was based on the original plan approved for the clinic.
He said MBKS would focus on finding practical solutions to the shortage for the benefit of the public, rather than pointing fingers over who was responsible for the current situation.
Meanwhile, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How said there was still available land around the clinic that could potentially be utilised for additional parking.
He said the issue had been raised before the clinic was fully completed, adding that funding constraints may have affected plans to develop the available land for parking.
See said he was prepared to support efforts to identify suitable areas that could be developed into additional parking spaces.
Wee said the council would assess the available options to minimise inconvenience to patients, visitors and staff. — DayakDaily
