KUCHING, Dec 20: Political observer Datuk Peter Minos believed that the 12th State Election (PRN12) will be held in March 2021.

He opined that PRN12 is most likely to be held in March next year because it is a period which does not have any festivities.

“February is the month for Chinese New Year (CNY) and early April is the fasting month for the Muslims.

“March is a month to watch out for and on the lips of many and the best month for political activities.

“That is enough time for the government and opposition to prepare themselves,” he said in a statement.

Minos asserted that PRN12 must be held by June 2021 when the term of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) expired.

With the automatic dissolution of the DUN then, he noted that there is still a period of 60 days for PRN12 to be held by August 2021.

Nevertheless, he pointed out that no ruling government wanted the state election to be held at the last month for many reasons.

Minos observed that most of the state elections in the past were held before the  expiry of the term of the DUN.

As the term of the DUN expiry which falls in June and coincides with the Gawai Festival, he asserted that PRN12 will also not fall in May and June.

Thus, Minos is confident that PRN12 is most likely to be held in March next year. —DayakDaily
