1,153 positive Covid-19 cases recorded nationwide today

KUCHING, Dec 19: Ministry of Health (MOH) today disclosed a total of 1,153 new positive Covid-19 cases were recorded throughout the country, with two imported cases.

MOH director general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement said the two imported cases were reported in Kuala Lumpur while the rest are local transmission, bringing the total cumulative number of Covid-19 cases reported in the country to 91,969 cases, with 15,294 cases still active.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, Selangor continues to report the highest number of new cases with a total of 401 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (281) and Sabah (199).

Other states that also reported new cases are Perak (82 cases), Johor (75), Pulau Pinang (30), Labuan (19), Negeri Sembilan (18), Pahang (16), Kedah (13), Kelantan (10), Putrajaya (four), Melaka (three), and Sarawak (two), while Perlis and Terengganu reported zero new case.

At the same time, he noted that currently a total of 112 cases of positive Covid-19 are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 56 of them on respiratory assistance.

“One Covid-19 related death was reported today in Hospital Pulau Pinang, involving a Malaysian, bringing the total cumulative of death cases due to Covid-19 in the country to 433 cases (0.47 per cent from the total number of cases),” he added.

On the same note, Dr. Noor Hisham also revealed that a total of five new clusters had been identified involving 143 individuals who were tested positive for Covid-19.

He said the cluster are Jalan Zuhrah Construction Cluster (49 positive cases) in Selangor, Keris Residence (41) and Brumas Cluster (16) in Sabah, Jalan Timah Cluster (26) in Johor, and Long Panji Cluster (11) in Kelantan. – DayakDaily.
