KUCHING, June 24: Sarawak possesses the utmost potential to propel Malaysia’s position as a frontrunner in the regional energy transition.

Highlighting this, Federal Minister of Economy Mohd Rafizi Ramli underscored the significance of certain decisions made at the Federal level, which have facilitated Sarawak’s rapid progress in numerous major energy transition projects.

“The economic alignment between the Federal and Sarawak governments is crucial for Sarawak’s plan to take off.

“The collaboration and integrated cooperation between the two governments would enhance the success of initiatives focused on both Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole,” he told a press conference after attending the Engagement Session of the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) with the Sarawak government at a hotel here today (June 24).

He further asserted that Sarawak’s achievement as a leader in energy transition would directly contribute to Malaysia’s success in the same realm.

“Currently, the federal and Sarawak governments share a common economic focus on energy transition. That’s why I am happy with what Sarawak has planned in this sector,” he said.

Rafizi also acknowledged that this would have a good impact on Sarawakians in terms of job creation, increased salaries and improved spending power in the future.

“That’s why I appreciate the contribution of the Sarawak government and the people of Sarawak, who understand that at this stage, we need political stability.

“With stability, the Sarawak government can be fully focused on development and policy matters,” he said.

Rafizi hopes this close collaborative relationship between the Federal and Sarawak governments will be emulated to prevent excessive politicking from hindering development priorities and the welfare of the people.

“We need to utilise all our efforts in the upcoming years to actualise the potential for future economic growth,” he added.
