KUCHING, Dec 23: Malaysians are not affected by religious and racial issues played by political figures.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang gave assurance that his ministry will play its part in managing such issues to reduce its impact on public unity.
“Not only is this a political issue, but there are also other problems (that contribute to this), that is why we try to manage and limit the problems created by these politicians using religion, race, and so on to get votes,” he told a press conference held after a briefing session held at the Ministry of Unity in the Federal Complex, here today.
Aaron was responding to a question from reporters regarding the efforts taken by the Ministry of National Unity to bridge the unity gap among Malaysians following racial and religious issues played up by certain political figures.
He pointed out that the various disagreements in Malaysia should not be swept under the carpet but addressed properly.
As such, he said, the ministry is coming out with various programmes to raise the spirit of patriotism among the people and cultivate understanding between all religions and races.
He also said that Malaysia is a harmonious country and everyone can live together regardless of religion, political ideology, and many others differences.
He added so far, no damage has been done, and Malaysians are tolerant of each other. — DayakDaily
