KUCHING, March 6: Handicraft industry can potentially create new workforce and job opportunities inclusively for all.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Dato Sri Tiong King Sing in a Facebook post today unveiled that as of 2022, there are about 12,108 workers in the craft industry.

“Motac through Kraftangan Malaysia will continue to play its role in line with national goal of Malaysia Madani based on three strategic priorities namely; eradicating poverty, restructuring the economy, and restoring and generating the economy.

“In the context of craft industry, this effort is driven by developing and encouraging more people to venture into and work on craft as a primary or secondary source of income,” he said.

He added that in addition, Kraftangan Malaysia also create a process of continuous creativity to help craft entrepreneurs in designing and discovering new aspects for innovative craft products.

Meanwhile, on National Craft Day (HKK) 2023, Tiong said the event aims to cultivate awareness and increase community’s knowledge of locally produced craft products.

The involvement of various races in the production of craft products creates a ‘Malaysian Identity Craft’, which is also the themed of HKK 2023, he added.

“This concept is in line with the essence of racial unity planned through the concept of Madani Malaysia by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said. – DayakDaily.
