MIRI, March 16: All events organised by the Miri City Council (MCC) will either be postponed or cancelled, while its public facilities will be temporarily close amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
This is in line with the Sarawak government directive announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
“Public places such as Miri Handicraft Centre, Taman Awam water features and public libraries will be closed for the next two weeks.
“The organising of the Ramadan bazaar and market will be put on hold depending on the situation nearer the fasting month period,” MCC mayor Adam Yii said in a statement.
He added that affected activities under the Miri City calendar either cancelled or postponed include the Miri City Day 15th anniversary celebration scheduled for May 29.
“MCC’s ‘Meet-the-people’ session in April will also be postponed to a later date. The council is also postponing its study trip for the City Infrastructure Standing Committee and the Rating and Valuation Committee taking place in April.
“The proposed community engagement trip to Long Lellang on March 30 will be postponed to a later date,” he continued.
Yii said members of the public will have to register their names, provide IC and contact numbers, as well as having their body temperatures taken, when entering MCC buildings and UTC.
“Hand sanitisers will be provided for the people to sanitise their hands before entry and on exit.
“MCC will strictly follow the guidelines given by Sarawak government to combat the Covid-19 problem and we encourage the Miri community to comply as well,” he continued. — DayakDaily
