MBKS to give away 1,000 lanterns, mooncakes during Mid-Autumn Fest on Sept 29

KUCHING, Sept 27: A total of 1,000 gifts consisting of cute lanterns and mooncakes await residents who turn up at Kuching South City Hall’s (MBKS) Mid-Autumn Festival on Sept 29 (Friday).

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the event, which will be held at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park at 6.30pm, aims to promote unity among Sarawak’s diverse community through the traditional activity of carrying lanterns, taking a leisurely walk in the park, and admiring the moon’s beauty.

He said the lanterns and mooncakes which are sponsored by Persatuan Persahabatan Zong Ho Kuching will be distributed to park visitors on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis.

“It is an ideal opportunity for families, friends, and the community to come together, enjoy the serene ambiance of the park, and illuminate the night with colorful lanterns,” said Wee in a press conference which was streamed live on his social media page today.

In addition to a lantern walk in the park, participants will also have the chance to enjoy a Lion Dance performed by the Chinese Martial Art Association.

MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili along with other councillors and community leaders will be joining Wee in this memorable and simple celebration.
