KUCHING, Jan 7: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is looking into increasing the number of council’s traffic wardens to assist in managing traffic, especially during peak hours and areas with heavy traffic under its jurisdiction.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said this matter will be brought up and discussed with the Deputy Premier, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian soon.
“I believe he will agree with us on the need to increase the number of traffic wardens to help deal with congestion in our urban areas.
“It will go through a proper procedure as it will need to be approved by the top management,” he shared during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.
In addition, Wee pointed out that MBKS has identified two traffic congestion prone areas including in front of Penview Hotel at Jalan Tun Razak.
He said assessment to identify more areas with congestion problems will continue so as to come up with strategies to improve traffic flow.
“In traffic light intersections, maybe we could recoordinate the traffic lights or to take action to mobilise traffic wardens or police to areas affected by congestion,” he added.
Reiterating that MBKS is committed to serve the people, Wee emphasised that communication is very important to bring solutions to issues faced by the people and as such, he welcomes all public suggestions, feedback and constructive criticisms that could lead to positive outcomes. — DayakDaily
